Key Ministry Features
Urban Ministry Training & Preparation
Before entering outreach environments, teams receive practical training from seasoned NYSUM staff. This includes cultural awareness, evangelism tools, and spiritual preparation—equipping participants to serve effectively in a fast-paced, diverse urban setting like New York City.
Street Evangelism & Friendship Ministry
Teams engage directly with people across NYC—on sidewalks, subway platforms, transit systems, and public spaces. Through conversation, testimonies, prayer, and compassion, participants build genuine relationships while sharing the Gospel in everyday environments.
Homeless & Compassion Ministry / Mobile Food Truck Outreaches
Teams serve individuals experiencing homelessness by distributing hot meals and essential resources, including water, blankets, hygiene kits, and clothing.
Through NYSUM’s Mobile Food Truck, participants help prepare and serve meals to men, women, children, and struggling veterans—meeting both physical and spiritual needs through prayer, encouragement, and personal connection.
Soup Kitchens, Food Pantries & Community Service
Teams partner with local ministries across NYC, serving in soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and warehouses. Opportunities include food preparation, meal service, organizing donations, and engaging guests in meaningful conversation.
Prayer Walks & Prayer Stations
Guided prayer walks take place in key locations throughout New York City, including areas such as Ground Zero, the Brooklyn Bridge, and surrounding neighborhoods. Prayer stations also create opportunities for direct ministry—offering encouragement and prayer to individuals throughout the city.
Children’s Outreaches
Teams participate in children’s ministry programs in partnership with local churches, shelters, and community organizations. Through songs, skits, puppet shows, and Gospel presentations, children hear the message of Jesus in an engaging, age-appropriate way—along with activities like games, crafts, face painting, and more.
Nursing Home Ministry
Teams serve seniors across NYC—many of whom have experienced long seasons of isolation. Through conversation, presence, and prayer, participants bring encouragement and connection. Teams may also lead chapel services that include worship, Scripture, testimonies, and personal encouragement.
Cross-Cultural Ministry (Jewish & Muslim Outreach)
Teams may have opportunities to engage in outreach within Jewish and Muslim communities. This includes cross-cultural training, respectful dialogue, prayer walks, observation-based mosque visits, and ministry within Orthodox and ethnically diverse neighborhoods.

Why It Matters
5 Day/Week-long Mission Trip
The 5 Night Mission Trip in NYC equips individuals and groups to step beyond their comfort zones and live out their faith through hands-on urban ministry.
In a city as diverse and complex as New York, needs are both visible and unseen—physical, emotional, and spiritual. This experience creates intentional opportunities to respond with compassion, meeting people where they are with practical help and the message of the Gospel.
At the same time, the impact on teams is deeply personal. Participants are challenged, stretched, and strengthened as they serve in real-life ministry environments. Many leave with a renewed sense of purpose, deeper compassion, and greater boldness in their faith.
What begins in New York City often continues far beyond it—impacting how individuals serve in their own communities, churches, and everyday lives.
