There is no better place to train up urban warriors than in New York City, the most International City of the World. Over 100 languages are spoken in New York City and the nations have come within our borders. Today, we can seize this window of opportunity to train and equip Christian workers to reclaim cities for Christ.
NYSUM is more than just another “school”. We are a “training and resource center serving the urban church.” NYSUM’s purpose is to train laborers for the front lines – servant leaders who can face the urban challenge. Our school is unique in that groups from Seminaries, Bible Schools, Colleges, Churches and Mission Organizations learn urban ministry at the grass roots with a cross-cultural “hands-on” focus. This is possible through NYSUM’S years of networking and partnering with pastors and churches throughout all five boroughs of New York City.

Who we Are
The New York School Of Urban Ministry (NYSUM) is a short-term teaching and training center for Christians with a heart for urban ministry. Through a combination of urban training, onsite practical ministry and actually living in a city neighborhood, we aim to train Christians to reach people in cities around the world for Christ. Groups come to NYSUM from across the United States, Canada and abroad for selected times of ministry listed below, and other times throughout the year
NYSUM is a trans-denominational, non-profit, Christian ministry, open to and serving all races, ethnic groups and churches. Mature, born-again Christians, with a genuine desire to assist city churches and ministries to reclaim their communities spiritually and socially are welcome to participate in the NYSUM urban experience.

What We Offer
- Short Term Missions
NYSUM’s role in urban missions is twofold: being a resource for local churches throughout the five boroughs of New York City through the groups that come to serve and imparting the vision and training to believers for reclaiming cities for Christ.
- Lodging
NYSUM rents rooms & meal plans per night for those coming for a short stay in the city
- Housing
- Long-Term- NYSUM owns & operates a Christian Residence which offers affordable short & long term housing to Christians living and working in the city.
- Short-Term- NYSUM offers short-term (6-9months) housing in our headquarters to Christian college students, interns, etc.

Where We Are Located
NYSUM’s 70,000 square foot brick building is located in the geographical center of New York City; in Queens. Our facility is a 10 minute drive from LaGuardia airport, a 20-minute drive from JFK airport and a 5 minute walk from the subway and bus line where connections can be made to any part of the city.
NYSUM facility: The training facility is the base of NYSUM’s operations; housing up to 275 people, it contains virtually everything needed to serve as a base of ministry operations for all types of outreach teams. Guests stay in clean, college-style dorm rooms with all accompanying amenities on separate men’s & women’s floors.
- Dormitories: 4-6 in a room, on bunks. Half bathroom in each room. Separate showers on each dorm floor. Prayer Room & Lounge on each floor.
- Dining Room, Cafeteria Style: Air-conditioned; seating for up to 225. Can also be used for large general assemblies or conferences.
- Lounge: Air-conditioned, casual seating area with sofas, vending machines, TV and pay phone. For relaxation and social time as well as ministry preparation & prayer.
- Chapel: Air-conditioned; seats up to 80 people and doubles as a classroom.
- Administration Office: NYSUM’s offices are located on the 2nd floor. The office will receive out-of-town messages & mail.
- Internet Access: available in our library (4 computers) from 9am – 5pm, Monday – Saturday.
- On-site Parking: Only ministry team vehicles that are used on outreaches will have space allocated. Neighborhood street parking is available for all others
- Conferences/Retreats/Lodging/Meeting Rooms: NYSUM offers a wide range of services for those who desire to hold their own conference or retreat; lodge only while visiting NYC; utilize our 5 newly renovated meeting rooms for a special one-day event or longer. On site catering is provide for those who wish to rent our 225 seat dining room.
- Subway Access: 21/2 blocks from the subway, with easy access to Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens & The Bronx
